Mrs. Showers

I'm originally from a very small town in northwest Minnesota.  My high school graduating class was only 47 students!  I grew up living on a lake and my family farms.  My parents and my brother and his family still work on the family farm.  We LOVE to spend time at the lake and on the farm throughout the year!  It will always feel like home to me.  I originally came to the Twin Cities to attend Bethel University.  I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and went to work for North St. Paul, Maplewood, Oakdale School District.  I also hold a Master's Degree of Education from St. Mary's University.

I taught second grade for North St. Paul until we began to have children.  I was home with my kids for many wonderful years and wouldn't trade that special time for anything!  We have 4 children and all of our children attend or graduated from Mahtomedi Schools.  I began working part time for Mahtomedi in 2011 in various roles teaching first grade, kindergarten, second grade, and doing both reading and math support.  I guess you could say I've done a little of lots of things at Wildwood!

When I'm not teaching second grade, you might find me running, riding my bike, spending time with my family, reading, or driving our kids to various activities/sports.  I spend lots of time in the car and have discovered this a great place to have some wonderful conversations with my kids!

I'm excited to work with your child this upcoming school year and to get to know your family.  I love to watch students understand a new concept for the first time and be a part of helping childre
n (and often families) make friendships that last well beyond second grade.  It's a privilege to be entrusted with your second grader for this upcoming year and I look forward to meeting all of you soon!

Our School

At Wildwood Elementary School, we honor the whole child and teach future-ready skills of inspiring curiosity, embracing change, and turning ideas into action. Our talented teachers and staff members work with students in small class sizes and nurture a culture of excellence that has become the expectation and norm. Our students learn social-emotional skills alongside academic core areas in order to gain the foundation for academic success. In addition, they have the opportunity to engage in learning with specialists in gym, art, media, music, and STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) classes. Our elementary school is surrounded by green space and our students enjoy recess at our natural playground and attend classes in our outdoor classroom. We have an engaged and supportive parent community who volunteers and supports the school with academic opportunities and tools. Our District is a leader in engineering and science and we value academic areas that will spark curiosity, fuel creativity, and instill a lifelong passion for innovation in our students.
